Sorry if this has been brought up. I didnt seem to find this subject. But if lets say Lando doesnt show up in this new trilogy do you think it would of made sense to have made Lor San Tekka Lando? They give Lor San Tekka all this history in the crawl and he knows who kyli is and calls leia royalty . Instead of making up this new character with all this history with the main characters why not just make this character someone that we would actually care about and make sense why he knows everyone.

I know at some point they'll make books and what not explain who this guy is but what a way to start of the new trilogy then to kill off one of our beloved original trilogy characters.

One of the only reason i would want Lando around is to have him in scenes with Han but since they killed Han that will never happen nowm. So whats is your thoughts on this? Would this have worked?

Yes, Lando would have fit the bill for this character. Of course, though, he may still show up in Episode 9.

I like the idea of Lando in the ST as well, and I was really hoping he would show up in TLJ, even if it was just a cameo or something. And Lor San Tekka's role would have been perfect for him. I don't foresee him appearing in Episode IX though. Leia and Han are both dead (presumably), so any possible reunion moment wouldn't have much impact, and it is too late imo for them to give him any meaningful role in the overall plot.

Yes Lando would have had more history with the characters we would immediately identify with.

I would have liked it but….would Lando really hang out in a desert like a monk? Not sure that fits unless he found the Force at some point.

No, why does everything need to be interconnected to the same characters?

Lando is too Lando to stay put in a village in the middle of a desert. Lando most likely is playing Sabacc and wiping clean all money from some random fools in a space cantina.

I'm just going to assume that you guys are just assuming Lando won't be in TLJ. Then I'm going to stay the heck away from all discussions about him.

Imagine the outcry if TFA began with Lando biting the dust like a little bitch.

It totally disrespects and fundamentally undermines my preconceived notions of who dies when, where and how to even suggest that just for argument's sake.

As far as myself I am just assuming because I don't know if Lando shows up or not. That's why I also started this topic by just saying let's assume he doesn't.

As far as if it was lando what is he doing on this planet? They could of just changed locations a bit and just had it that pano and Poe were meeting up on this planet to exchange this info. Lando doesn't have to be a church of the force character. I think it could of worked.

If Lando is going to be in the movies ne I don't see him playing a big role and we know he's not going to be with Han and he's not going to get his falcon back since it seems to be Rey's now. So a nice intro to a beloved character would of been nice.

When that character says to kylo "I knew you before you called yourself kylo ren" you would be able to imagine fun 'uncle' Lando visiting the solo family and playing with young Ben. The history of this character would feel more real then this made up character . That's my thoughts.

I've been saying this since TFA came out. If they have no other plans for Lando this would've been a great use of the character. Set up Kylo Ren as a powerful villain from the get-go, he kills Land Calrissian!

I think that, if they were to have put Lando in TFA, they wouldn't have had him on a desert planet. As of right now, I can think of no important reason for Lor San Tekka to be on Jakku at the beginning of TFA (other than plot convenience). They could have had Kylo & Co. attack Lando's casino that he won in a card game or Lando's new and improved mining facility or anything. So the whole "Lando wouldn't be in the desert " isn't really a great argument for why TFA didn't open with Lando.

I can see why he would have to be on the desert (because plans are given to bb8 and bb8 runs into rey. If bb8 was on another planet that lando would be at then how would bb8 end up on desert planet to bump into rey?)

But to me it seems like it would be better to use an established character. Just saying hes an old friend doesnt cut it.

Its like i empire strikes back we meet lando. You get to know him. You see hes friends with Han but Han also doesnt quite trust him. And then what happens? Lando turns them over to Vader.

What if when Han and gang open door and they see Vader you also see this other random guy next to Vader.... and Han says "Jim? What are you doing here? Whats going on?" Jim "i saw your ship land. I know we're old buddies but i need the credits and i knew there was a large bounty on you."

Sure the story would tell you they knew each other but for the audience you wouldnt really care because you dont know them.

    I word... Rey.

I bet that whoever dropped Rey on there also had Lor San Tekka & friends to keep an eye on her.

We are just assuming, we don't know either.

Nah. I'd hate to have seen Lando die in the first five minutes. Not to mention, having Kylo kill Lando AND Han in one movie would have been a bit much. Would have felt like "our new character is gonna kill all the old ones" especially since I'm assuming they'll have Leia die due to Carrie's passing. I'm hoping Lando is in 8 or 9, but even if he isn't, I'd still prefer him not showing up to him dying in the opening scene.

Lor San Tekka is interesting though. I feel like we haven't heard the last of him.

I don't think Lando could have replaced Lor San Tekka. Lor is a Jedi lore hunter/historian/adventurer. He was out in the vast regions of the galaxy looking for Jedi relics and such and l their teachings. I don't see Lando in a role like that.

I do hope they bring Lando back in the next movies in some capacity tho.

Well, Lor didn't die that way. He was basically telling Kylo where to shove it until Kylo executed him. He wasn't groveling or begging or being anything but defiant.

No because what a waste of a great character to have him show up for the first few minutes and be quickly killed off. It's too much drama, too early for the movie and it might even overshadow Han's death. This isn't Game of Thrones where major characters can be indiscriminately killed off left and right.

Then I would rather they didn't give this Tekka guy all this build up in the crawl and in the things he says such as "she's always royalty to me" "i knew you before you called yourself Kylo Ren." Just make this guy a middle man that has info about Luke. I feel this guy was made purposely just to sell books/comic books whatever. I dont want to have to read a book just to find out who this guy is. That goes for the whole First Order as well, but thats a whole other story. Going from Return of the Jedi to The Force Awaken you would assume empire is gone or at least very badly weaken, but first shot we see is a star destroyer. Everyone is scared of them. Even Finn says something like "no one can beat them..you need to run"

I dont want to read some book to figure out how did this defeated empire not only survive, but is now STRONGER and BIGGER (they have starkiller base thats a whole lot bigger and deadly than the death star) than what it was before. Anyways just venting a bit :)

As has been said, Lando has more to give the ST than dying in first few minutes of the first film. It would be an interesting twist, but ultimately a waste of bringing back a beloved character from the OT.
